Ulises Unda
Ulises Unda holds a PhD in Art and Visual Culture from Western University, Canada. He completed an MFA in Electronic Integrated Arts at Alfred University, New York, and a Master’s in Cultural Studies at Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar, Ecuador. He also participated in the Artist-in-Residency program (1999 and 2000) at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Through his recent artistic activities, Unda develops new perspectives on his interest in cultural differences while fostering dialogical and collaborative endeavours based on reflexive practices of sound/listening. His artwork has been exhibited extensively, including at the Loop Video Art Festival, Barcelona, Spain; Museum Lu Xun Academy of Fine Art, Shenyang, China; Queens Museum of Art, New York, USA; and the Center for the Development of the Visual Arts, Havana, Cuba. He was also the curator of the exhibition “Arte Contemporáneo en Ecuador” [Contemporary Art in Ecuador] at the Museum Camilo Egas in 2007. Ulises was awarded the Premio nacional ecuatoriano Mariano Aguilera Malta in 2002.
