Noemí García

Noemí García is from El Salvador, and came to Canada in the early 1980s. She is a board member of the Asociación Salvadoreña Canadiense [Salvadoran Canadian Association, ASALCA]. In the 1980s and 1990s, she was a board member of Comunidad Centroamericana en Toronto [Central American Community of Toronto, COCENTO], and Apoyo Mutuo entre Refugiados Centroamericanos [Mutual Support Among Central American Refugees, AMERCT]. She is a recipient of the City of Toronto’s Constance E. Hamilton Award, which is given to persons who have significantly contributed to securing equitable treatment for Toronto women in the economic, social or cultural areas. Currently, she works as a program manager at North York Community House, leading the Settlement and Financial Empowerment for Newcomers Program. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Women’s Studies from York University.
