Chalatenango Historical Memory Community Museums Network
The Museums Network was launched in July 2021 in the context of the Surviving Memory in Postwar El Salvador research initiative. It is a space to organize meetings and exchange experiences between communities that work to rescue the historical memory of their peoples through community museums, access to joint training, developing activities as a network, and encouraging communities that do not yet have a community museum to work on creating one.
Initially, the network brought together the communities of Arcatao, Las Flores, and Guarjila, which already have a museum of memory. Soon, they were joined by the Ignacio Ellacuría Community and Las Vueltas communities, which are in the process of creating their own museums. Finally, Nueva Trinidad joined with the interest of building a space of memory.
The Network is promoted by Cáritas Chalatenango and works in partnership with organizations such as Asociación Sumpul [Sumpul Association], Museo de la Palabra y la Imagen [Museum of the Word and Image], the Archivo de Protección de Derechos Humanos del Arzobispado [Human Rights Protection Archive of the Archbishop], Marte Museum, and various municipalities.
