Meyer Brownstone
Meyer Brownstone (PhD) was a professor emeritus of Political Science at the University of Toronto (Canada), the founding Director of Oxfam Canada, and one of the founding members of the Surviving Memory project. From 2016 to 2019, he provided our fledging research team with important details of the historical memory of the Salvadoran refugee crisis, access to hundreds of photos from the 1980s, and generous scholarly guidance for our first two Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) grant applications. He remained active with the project until shortly before his death at the age of 96. He was committed to social justice for all people, inspired countless students and emerging scholars, and worked tirelessly to document oppression, inequality, and political crises across the globe. His legacy lives on the values of the Surviving Memory project.
