María Angélica González

María Angélica González recently completed the Master of Music program at Western University (Canada), with a focus on viola performance. María participated in El Sistema in her home country, Venezuela, and later obtained a Bachelor’s in Music at Western Illinois University, US. While studying at Western Illinois, she performed with the university’s President’s International String Quartet, the Symphony Orchestra, and the Chamber Orchestra. Her research focuses on musical works of women who were silenced and undervalued in the beginnings of classical music by the misogynistic structures of that time. As a research assistant for the Surviving Memory team from 2021 to 2023, González assisted with translations and transcriptions and developing the catalogue of songs created by survivors of the Civil War in El Salvador.
