Lidice Michelle Melara Minero

Lidice Michelle Melara Minero was born in El Salvador and, due to the repression in 1980, had to flee with her family, seeking exile in Nicaragua and Mexico. After the Peace Accords in 1992, she returned to her country and studied Sociology and a master's degree in Political Science at the José Simeón Cañas Central American University. Her interest in these studies focused on understanding the impact of the armed conflict to her family and  to the Salvadoran society. Michelle researches topics such as political violence, the use of firearms, and private security in the postwar context. Since the end of the war, she has worked on historical memory projects, including the listing for the Nombres para no Olvidar [Names to Remember] monument in San Salvador. Currently, she teaches Spanish and is an independent researcher involved in the Chalatenango Luz y Sombra [Chalatenango Light and Shadow] project in memory of her partner, Ralph Sprenkels. She also engages in painting and writing. You can view Michelle's art here: https://michellemelara.wordpress.com/pagina-de-inicio/
