Kiran Halkitis

Kiran Halkitis is a Bahamian national and an undergraduate student pursuing an honours degree in politics, philosophy, and economics, majoring in Spanish and minoring in digital humanities at Western University, Canada. He enjoys reading historical fiction and philosophy and loves meeting new people. He is passionate about politics, social issues, and linguistics. Halkitis was first exposed to the Surviving Memory project through an experiential learning course and, in the following summer, joined the research team as an Undergraduate Student Research Award (USRA) recipient. Using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), he mapped sites of interest and recorded traditional Salvadoran knowledge on the country’s ecology, transcribed recorded interviews, and developed a literature review focused on Afro-Indigenous identity in El Salvador.
