Johannes Berry

Johannes Berry is an architect based in Brussels, Belgium. He studied fashion design in Cape Town, South Africa, before obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the University of Hasselt, and a Master’s degree in the same field from the Catholic University of Leuven (KU Leuven), both in Belgium, where he has been teaching since 2015. In 2016, Berry founded Sugiberry with Mayu Takasugi, based in Brussels and Tokyo. In 2018, Berry founded the architectural magazine Gallery Magazine with Jonathan R. Maj. His ongoing PhD, supervised by Harold Fallon and co-supervised by Robin Schaeverbeke, defends that the reference of materialization and construction is impossible to escape and, as such, focuses on architecture, which is inspired by the expression of these processes. Along with Steven Schenk, he participated in design proposals for the commemoration site of El Higueral, Gualsinga, Laguna Seca/Laguna San Ramón, and the Museo de Memoria Histórica [Historical Memory Museum] in Las Vueltas, El Salvador. He is on track to complete his PhD in 2026.
